Memorial Cardinal Mini-Wreath

Memorial Cardinal Mini-Wreath

Memorial Cardinal Mini-Wreath

I have heard it said that when you are visited by a cardinal, you have been visited by a loved one who has passed away.  This is such a comforting thought in grief.  Whenever I see a cardinal, I think of my Dad and my grandparents.  While we will not truly know if there is something to this idea until we have passed on ourselves, it is a comforting thought that those we loved could still be looking in on us from time to time.  This Memorial Cardinal Mini-Wreath is a sweet reminder of those we have lost and keeps them near to us in the holiday season.

As a mini-wreath, I have used this one on my hutch in the dining room.  This is a simple, endearing gift to give someone who is grieving a loss during the holiday season.

Supplies

  • White Loop Yarn (1 skein)
  • Foam wreath form (I used a 9 inch wreath form)
  • Metal cardinal ornament (I found this one at Hobby Lobby in their Christmas clearance)
  • Twine

Directions

  • Start wrapping the loop yarn around the wreath form.  Tighten the yarn around the beginning piece of yarn and then start wrapping.  There is no need for glue or pins.
  • When the wreath form is wrapped, cut off the excess yarn and tie the end into the project to hide the end piece
  • Tie the metal cardinal ornament to the wreath form using twine and hang it down into the bottom of the wreath form.  This gives the appearance that the bird is sitting on the wreath.

Christmas Sign

Christmas sign gold

Christmas Sign

This is a sweet Christmas sign that I created for our decor this year.  I found the adorable white metal sign at Hobby Lobby in their Christmas sale items.  When I found it, I had no idea what I would do with it.  However, since it had verses from Luke on it, recounting part of the Christmas story, I just knew I needed to display it.  Displaying it on its own seemed a bit boring and understated.  So, I went on a hunt to see what I had to pair it with.

Earlier this year, I had painted this canvas red.  It’s a rough paint job and just one coat.  It sat in my craft room unused until the perfect sized sign was found and it now looks great on my living room wall.

Supplies

Christmas sign supplies

  • Canvas 12×24 inches
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Sign-I found this at Hobby Lobby.  You can use any sign you find appropriate.
  • Green stems
  • Ribbon-I used flannel ribbon in plaid
  • Hot glue gun with hot glue sticks

Directions

  • Paint your canvas with red paint.  Don’t worry about streaking or imperfections. Let the paint dry before doing the next step.
  • Hot glue the metal sign to your canvas.
  • Arrange and glue green stems to the top of the canvas.  You may need to cut off excess stems from the greens.
  • Make a bow and hot glue it on top of the green stems.
  • Hang and enjoy!

Christmas Tree Truck Wreath

Christmas Tree Truck Wreath

Christmas Tree Truck Wreath

I’m obsessed with vintage trucks!  My kids tease me relentlessly because our house is covered in them throughout the year for every holiday.  However, at Christmas, the nostalgia is even more sweet.  This Christmas Tree Truck Wreath, as my kiddos affectionately dubbed it, it one of my favorites.  It brings a touch of the past to your home for Christmas.

When I was a young girl, my grandfather had an old pick up truck.  His truck was nothing special and certainly would not win any prizes for cleanliness or style.  However, seeing these vintage trucks pop up in decor these days remind me of jumping in the truck with him and going for a ride.  I can still smell the oil and mustiness of the truck and feel the bumpy ride as we drove along.  My heart longs for those simpler days and I love to remember those times.  While this is just a simple wreath, the memories it stirs are priceless.

  • Evergreen wreath
  • Ribbon of desired color (I used red burlap and white fur ribbon)

 Directions

  • Add twine to the top of the metal truck
  • Tie twine around the metal ring of the evergreen wreath
  • Add ribbon by tying it into a bow of desired size
  • Push the twine under the back of the tie of the bow and tie it to the ring of evergreen wreath

This simple JOY loop yarn wreath is so pretty and quick to assemble.  You will want to make some to give to all of your friends and family this Christmas.

  Supplies:

  • Foam wreath form in desired size (I used a 16 inch wreath form in white)
  • Black loop yarn (1 1/2 skeins for the one seen here.  If you paint the wreath form black, you could get away with 1 skein)
  • Ribbon in desired pattern (I love buffalo check for Christmas, especially red)
  • Joy (tin sign I bought from Hobby Lobby-on sale in their Christmas collections)
  • Twine

     Directions:

  • Start by wrapping the yarn around the wreath form.  I used 1 1/2 skeins of yarn for this wreath.  Hold the end of the yarn against the wreath form and then overlap the first wrap of yarn around the end piece to hold it in place.  (Using black yarn makes the white wreath form a bit difficult to completely cover without using more than one skein of yarn.  I needed it to be thick enough to cover the white.  If you choose, you can paint the wreath form black before wrapping the form with yarn.  Let the paint dry completely before wrapping the yarn).
  • When you have finished wrapping the yarn around the wreath form, tie the end of the yarn to the yarn on the back of the wreath.   Fluff the yarn if needed because sometimes the loops get mashed down while wrapping.
  • Use twine to tie the metal sign on to the wreath form.  Hide the ties of the twine in the yarn.  You may also want to use twine in a loop to hang the wreath.
  • Make a bow with the ribbon you have chosen.  Use twine to tie the bow onto the wreath form.  You may also use hot glue if you choose.  I like to change up my accessories on wreaths and use them multiple times.  So, using twine is a great way to allow you to switch out those accessories by season.
